The Final Verdict at the Cross.

This is Jesus According to Jesus. This reflection belongs to our Topical Sayings of Jesus collection. Its focus is this: The sayings of Jesus organized by major themes such as sin, repentance, forgiveness, faith, eternal life, judgment, prayer, discipleship, the kingdom of God, and love: gather Jesus’ words around a specific subject rather than…. Listen carefully and think about what Jesus says. Let’s begin.

The Final Verdict at the Cross.

April: Passion Week and the Path of the Cross.

There are problems you can manage.

Then there are problems you cannot survive without rescue.

You can improve habits, adjust routines, repair relationships, build wealth, polish reputation, and distract yourself with noise. But you cannot self-improve your way out of sin. You cannot organize your way out of death. You cannot moralize your way into peace with God.

Human instinct keeps reaching for a ladder.

Jesus comes down and says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

That is where Passion Week brings us.

Not to a religious mood.
Not to a sentimental tragedy.
Not to a story about a good man crushed by evil people.

Passion Week brings us to Jesus interpreting His own death.

And His words do not allow neutrality.

The Hour Had Come.

Jesus did not stumble into the cross.

He walked toward it.

He said, “The hour has come.”

That means His death was not an accident. It was not a collapse of His mission. It was the mission moving into its deepest purpose.

He said, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone.”

Jesus knew the cost. He knew the betrayal. He knew the garden. He knew the nails. He knew the cup.

And still He prayed, “Not My will, but Yours be done.”

This was not weakness.

This was surrender with authority.

The Son did not lose control at the cross. He gave Himself.

The Cross Was Not Defeat.

At the table, before the nails, Jesus explained what His death meant.

He took the bread and said, “Do this in remembrance of Me.”

He took the cup and spoke of His blood poured out for forgiveness.

He was not asking His disciples to remember a martyr. He was preparing them to understand a sacrifice.

The cross was not merely something done to Jesus.

It was something Jesus chose, carried, and interpreted.

He said, “Greater love has no one than this.”

Then He showed it.

He said, “My kingdom is not of this world.”

Then He stood before the powers of this world without begging them for life.

He said, “Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.”

Then truth was condemned by lies, holiness was mocked by sinners, and the Author of life was nailed to wood.

But His final word was not panic.

It was not confusion.

It was not defeat.

He said, “It is finished.”

Finished means the work was completed.

Not attempted.
Not offered as inspiration.
Not left for you to finish.

Finished.

The Risen Christ Speaks Peace.

The Gospels do not end with a sealed tomb.

They announce a risen Christ.

The One who said, “I am the resurrection and the life,” stepped out of death alive.

And when He came to His disciples, He did not say, “Try harder.”

He said, “Peace be with you.”

That peace was not cheap comfort. It was resurrection peace. Blood-bought peace. Peace from the One who had gone through judgment, death, and the grave — and stood alive on the other side.

Then He said, “As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.”

So Passion Week does not end with private relief.

It ends with a commission.

The crucified and risen Jesus sends forgiven people into the world to bear witness to Him.

The Verdict Is Yours.

You cannot look at the cross and remain neutral.

If you dismiss Jesus, you are not dismissing a harmless teacher. You are rejecting the One who says He is the way, the truth, and the life.

If you claim Jesus while keeping your life for yourself, Passion Week exposes the contradiction.

He does not ask for a respectful opinion.

He calls for trust.

He calls for love.

He says, “If you love Me, keep My commands.”

The problem is your sin.

The solution is His sacrifice.

The proof is His resurrection.

The call is His voice.

So what will you do with the Jesus who chose the cross, finished the work, defeated the grave, and now speaks peace?

Will you receive the finished work of Jesus, bow to the risen Christ, and follow Him?

Or will you keep trying to save yourself with a life that is already passing away?
